At Engaging Events, we don’t like to do anything halfway. If you know us and our team, you know that we love decor, design, and florals. So when we were offered a chance to be one of the featured wedding vendors at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Wedding Venue Showcase at Osprey Point Clubhouse on Kiawah Island… we went all out. Having been a Kiawah Island wedding planner for over a decade, (and not to toot our own horn, BUT) having planned the very first wedding to take place at the Ocean Course, we love working on Kiawah and we were so excited. We were also paired with some of our favorite Charleston wedding vendors to accomplish our task. The goal of this event was to inspire Charleston wedding and event planners to see the possibilities of hosting an event on Kiawah Island, and especially within the Kiawah Island Golf Resort venues.
Of course, we couldn’t dress up an entire wedding venue and not take pictures, so we seized the opportunity to work with MCG Photography and put together a little styled shoot. Thank you to MCG Photography! This week, A Lowcountry Wedding decided to feature our styled shoot; you can see that here.
Without the guidance of a client’s style preferences, we had the whole world open to us in terms of decor. We took into account the fact that Osprey Point Clubhouse’s ballroom has so many gold accents within the room, so in order to avoid clashing, we wanted to include our own gold elements. However, as we kept on picking design elements, the gold turned into a much larger part of the design. It wasn’t until we found the BEAUTIFUL patterned linen from BBJ Linen, that the vision came together. We incorporated hints of hunter green and lots of gold accents to make the patterned linen stand out even more. On the round tables, we chose to use full-length, to-the-floor linens, while on the longer community tables, we used a matching table runner. This allowed another rustic touch, by keeping some of the wooden table exposed.Since Engaging Events owns so much of the decor that we use, we were able to take all of our favorite gold items and incorporate them to add some shine, without looking too garish. The gold votive holders, in particular, added a much needed touch to each dinner table.
When it came to the florals, we went very heavy on greenery, and used a lot of white and neutral tones with our flowers. Perhaps our favorite detail about the floral arrangements would be the lotus pods that we added in to all of our centerpieces (if you’re not sure what a lotus pod looks like, they’re the dried, brown “flowers” that contain little seeds inside). They added more of a natural, rustic feel, which we wanted to be sure to include to soften the glamour of the hydrangea, roses, and magnolia leaves. Since the event was in November, we also felt like the rustic glam vibe was appropriate, and using seasonal items like lotus pods and magnolia leaves added the perfect touch! The floral containers that we used include our short gold centerpiece holders (seen on the round tables) and our tall rectangular floral arrangement stands (seen on the longer community tables). We also added a sprig of hydrangea to each of the napkins, which we had wrapped around the chargers. Since our napkin linen choice was very subtle, we were able to add a soft floral touch to each place setting without overloading the room with flowers. We also added in some simple bud vases to the higher cocktail tables, to compliment their beautiful hunter green linens.
We were lucky enough to work with MCG Photography, who we work with on a regular basis, and they took fantastic photos of our design. BBJ Linen, another of our favorite vendors, supplied the beautiful linens, including table linens, napkins, and table runners. All of the rental items were provided by Eventhaus, including the gold chargers, the gold-rimmed glasses, gold flatware, dancefloor, and stage. We also had a great deal of help from Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The beautiful cake with its gold foil accents was provided by Kiawah Island Golf Resort, and we set it on top of our own dark wooden cake stand. We were also able to use Osprey Point’s own clubhouse chairs and ceremony chairs, and they ended up matching the ivory tones in our linens perfectly! To make the event a little more fun, the resort’s chefs prepared hors d’oeuvres for the guests, and provided a cute popcorn station and JNSQ Rosé Cru.
Engaging Events is so excited to get to participate in events like these. Of course, we love designing and coordinating events for our clients, but every once in a while it’s fun to put something together that’s all our own. Not only does it help us release a little bit of creative energy, but it’s just plain fun. Osprey Point Clubhouse is adjacent to the Osprey Point Golf Course, which is a part of Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The clubhouse’s little pond is home to the course’s famous alligators, and we got to see them basking in the sun as we set up for the day. We’re also able to use the resulting photos from the photo shoot on our website and here on the blog. It’s a good way to show clients a type of design that they might not see every day, in a wedding venue that is ideal for customization. It’s not often that we get to participate in these types of events, given our full schedule of weddings and events throughout the year, but every once in a while it turns into something pretty amazing. If you’re suffering from a lack of wedding inspiration, we are here to help. We post daily on our Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest accounts; take a look and you’ll be just as inspired as we are! We’re also posting all of these photos to our Pinterest boards, so be sure to follow us on Pinterest if you want to re-pin this inspo onto your own wedding boards! We’re so glad that we could share this event with you!
