So many brides dream of their perfect wedding (grooms: we aren’t fooled, we know you’re dreaming about it, too). Whether you’re working from Pinterest boards, magazine cutouts, or that super cute guest book idea that you saw at a friend’s wedding, Engaging Events is here to make your dreams a reality. For both Charleston natives and couples looking for the perfect destination wedding venue, Kiawah Island is the setting of that dream. It makes sense that, given all of the perfect details that you’re already excited about, you’d want to find an absolutely stunning outdoor ceremony backdrop, too. We’re exploring five of the most amazing Kiawah Island wedding venues and their jaw-dropping ceremony backdrops.
The Grand Lawn at The Sanctuary Hotel
As one of the premier locations that overlook the private Kiawah Island beaches, the Grand Lawn at The Sanctuary Hotel is an absolutely beautiful location that works to suit a wide range of decor visions. In the past, some of our clients’ ceremonies that have taken place at The Sanctuary have included an arbor of some sort (click here to see our Scrapbook of Sanctuary weddings to see more!) and it works to perfectly frame the Atlantic in the background.
The grass expanse is perfect for adding ceremony chairs and light floral decor and the air smells salty and fresh. The wind is light, allowing a perfect setting for lightly windswept bridal photos. Regardless of your wedding’s color scheme or theme, the Grand Lawn at The Sanctuary Hotel is worth checking out through its owning organization, the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
The River Course at the Kiawah Island Club
A magnificent golf course, this stunning and well-manicured space is wildly popular with those looking for a private, but spacious wedding backdrop. This space suits simplistic, relaxed weddings with an elegant feel.
As you can see above, Ali and Ian chose to include an amazing chuppah to stand under, which provided a special religious meaning and also allowed them to personalize their decor with some gorgeous flowers. Click here to take a look at some of our past work at The River Course.
In order to reserve this space, you will either need to be a member of the Kiawah Island Club or be sponsored by one. If you are able to grab a spot at this stunning location, you are in for a truly beautiful scenery experience.
Mingo Point at The Kiawah Island Golf Resort
A perfect Lowcountry location for a wide range of receptions and events, Mingo Point is a popular wedding venue for lovers of nature and it is worth the slight waitlist. Located just miles from historic Charleston, this is an easily accessible location. Mingo Point is often used for larger events due to the capacity limit being much higher than some other locations in the area.
Another popular use for the space includes rehearsal dinners and welcome parties, which you can see examples of here.
With so many potential options to customize your decor and design, we welcome the unique ideas that you might have for the space, but we can also help in this area! , Mingo Point is such a fun, outdoorsy venue, especially for those couples in search of a casual, rustic-feeling venue. This venue has perhaps one of the prettiest marsh views on the entire Island.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
An iconic golf course located on the far end of Kiawah Island, the Ocean Course is a stunning green space featuring an absolutely beautiful natural skyline and the relaxing sound of the surf. If you want a windswept, European destination wedding feel without leaving the States, this would be a wonderful option.
Engaging Events coordinated the first wedding to take place at The Ocean Course in 2009, and has extensive knowledge of this stunning wedding venue. To see more of our past work at The Ocean Course, click here!
The area’s natural wind exposure keeps it cool, even on hotter days, making for a perfect wedding venue for ceremonies and receptions, alike. Designed by Pete Dye, the space is intended to mesh well with the natural surrounding area. In fact, Dye’s wife, Alice, designed the entire course to give the best possible view of the Kiawah skyline, offering an otherwise unavailable glimpse of the true beauty of the island and the surrounding waters. If you choose this location, you will get to experience a truly special place.
Osprey Point Golf Course
Yet another popular course within the Kiawah Island Resort is the Osprey Point Course, a newly renovated, world-class championship golf course that is maintained to one of the highest standards in the world, like all of the other Kiawah Island Resort courses.
This venue provides a unique clubhouse area where couples hold their receptions; click here to see the possibilities, and be sure to check out the styled photoshoot that we designed in this amazing venue!
Reimagined in 2014 under the instruction of famed course architect Tom Fazio, this space is noted for its stunning natural beauty, pristine course condition, and classically styled clubhouse. If you want an upscale yet inviting feel, this course is a beautiful option with breathtaking views of lagoons, southern oaks and palmetto trees.
Island Magic For Your Special Day
Regardless of which venue you choose, Kiawah Island has some of the most amazing views and stunning skylines available. The natural spaces and outdoor venues on the Island suit a wide range of wedding styles and decor preferences, allowing you to customize and design a wedding that is uniquely you.
