A gorgeous bride, a handsome groom, a beautiful May day, a venue on the water..hmmmm stuff dreams are made of huh? Well that is what Courtney and Matt’s day was like this past May – and we were so thrilled to be a part of it.

Judy designed an absolutely gorgeous bouquet for Courtney using peonies, garden roses, stock, delphinium, dusty miller, and lily of the valley.

The Wedding Ceremony took place on the lawn overlooking the harbor- we used a curved white arbor as a base- added some flowing white fabric, a couple of bouquets and a timeless wrought iron table for the unity sand ceremony; creating the soft and romantic setting Courtney & Matt dreamed of.

The Reception tent was just as soft and romantic as the ceremony, centerpieces of peonies, garden roses, hydrangea, delphinium, dusty miller and queene anne’s lace -fashioned in a mercury glass vase was gorgeous on the pewter linens. Engaging Events created the vintage looking wooden table  numbers.

Cake Designer Jim Smeal created a gorgeous -soft and romantic cake that had a little of the silver color to it -and we placed it front and center for all to see:)

Calligraphy by Request handled all the escort card, and food sign calligraphy for us- what beautiful, timeless writing she has!


Continuing the soft romantic look- Engaging Events hung our crystal chandeliers and café lighting in the existing tent creating that oh so dreamy atmosphere:)

With wedding season upon us we’d like to talk about Save the Dates, Invitations, and most importantly the Post Office. With the postage rate increase this January, it got us thinking about how important it is to have all of your wedding paper goods weighed for postage.  At Engaging Events we take a sample the save the date and invitation to the post office and have them weighed for postage prior to purchasing the postage.  This is a very important step in the process of mailing out your save the dates and invitations.

Oversized and heavy weight invitations require additional postage and the .60 wedding cake stamp is not enough.  It is also a good idea to have your invitation weighed prior to purchasing stamps because if your invitations has bulky items incorporated in the design (bows, wax seals, etc) it may be considered a parcel which requires a different type of postage.  When your invitation is sent as a parcel it goes in a different pile from the regular mail, so during security check the parcel invitations do not get ripped or ruined from the security slots. So what to do when your invitation requires additional postage?

We use various sites that let you create your own stamp, yes customizable stamps! A few of our favorite custom stamp websites are: and

Both sites let you create custom stamps with your own image and in the denomination you need! Now that you’ve got the correct postage another important things we do at engaging Events is hand cancel every invitation that goes out.  The cancellation stamp is used to “deface” the stamp so it cannot be reused and by doing this the letter does not have to go through the postal machine that puts the large barcode across the top of the invite.  There was a lot of time and money put into those invitations, sending them with a cancelled stamp also gives the first glimpse to where the wedding will be if you send them from a post office in the city you’re hosting the wedding!

And just a reminder! Save the dates should be mailed out six to nine months before your wedding.  Invitations should be mailed out seven to eight weeks before a destination wedding and six to seven weeks for a local wedding.

A spring day on the water at the Island House is always a treat, but especially with this happy couple! Lauren and Ben are always smiling- you can tell how much happiness they bring to each others lives by just looking at them! We LOVED Lauren’s chosen color palette – a beautiful water colored blue- almost peacock colored but not quite, apple green and coral. To enhance the organic look we chose linens with texture and burlap runners and ties to bring it all together.

Lauren and Ben wanted to have a few DIY projects but nothing that would take away from the week of the wedding- so they made some directional signs, and some kraft tag that the guests wrote messages on and hung from the screen Lauren ordered online.


Our own Judy Johnston fashioned the gorgeous bouquets  the girls carried using succulents, button mums, ranunculus, garden roses, thistle , and sweet pea.

Guests danced the nite away under the tent- which featured a dessert table, and umbrella tables overlooking the water.


A great time was had by all- and we were so thrilled to be a part of it. It was the 2nd wedding we had done for Lauren’s family and it was great to see all of them again. All of our love and well wishes go out to Lauren and Ben!

St. James Episcopal Church  and Lowndes Grove Plantation

We recently shared with you the exciting news about one of our clients weddings being featured on Style Me Pretty. We thought we would share a few more images with you and a little more about their fabulous day.

One of the best things about Laura and Walsh’s beautiful wedding was the weather- We all dream of that perfect day for our wedding 75 degree’s, crisp blue sky and sun…well Laura and Walsh definitely got that. They began the evening with their Nuptials at St. James Episcopal Church on James Island. It is a beautiful southern chapel with great big oaks dripping in Spanish moss surrounding it. Laura carried a bouquet of Peonies, Garden Roses, Ranunculous and Anemones accented with Dusty Miller.


As guests arrived to the reception they were greeted with Bottled beer, Lemonade and Sweet Tea on the front lawn along with custom corn hole boards the couple had received as a gift. The cocktail tables dressed in pewter were accented with budvases of cream flowers – roses, stock, ranunculous, and some more of that romantic Dusty Miller.


The Dinner Tent was swagged with pewter fabric and our timeless crystal chandeliers. Tables consisted of Mahogany Farm tables and pewter linen tables with the flowers in containers of Mercury Glass with each table having its own unique design – either footed bowl or table cascade. Mahogany chairs, votive candles and napkins tied with pewter ribbon completed the look. The couple and their guests danced the nite away to the sounds of Plane Jane- a favorite local band.


We didn’t stop there though. With the couples love of the outdoors in mind- we fashioned a portion of the reception to be open air in good weather- and as I mentioned above- “The Man upstairs” came through for us on the weather! So Café Lighting, White plantation bar and our bar shelves finished off the patio leading to the dock. On the lawn, Laura dreamt of a comfy, cozy romantic spot to watch the evening unfold- so we utilized our vintage seating area and hung our wrought iron lanterns from the tree’s above.


I don’t think anyone could of ever asked for a more lovely evening – a sweet couple, wonderful weather, beautiful venues- and Engaging Events leading the way….Congratulations Laura and Walsh!













Special Event Insurance

At Engaging Events we recommend Special Event Insurance to all of our brides.  Special Event Insurance provides broad protection against inclement weather, no-show vendors, and alcohol related accidents.  In the Lowcountry, many fall weddings occur the during hurricane season, and the last thing anyone wants is their wedding to be ruined by a hurricane!

Special event insurance is very affordable and easy to obtain.  Many insurance companies allow you to add on a special event policy to your existing home owners policy and the cost is typically $200 – $250.

We strongly recommend every bride at least look into special event insurance because anything can happen, so why not be covered!

White Point Gardens and Harborside East

We were so thrilled to help Leigh and Pat tie the knot at their wedding this spring…I had the pleasure of helping with Pat’s sisters wedding several years ago so it was so fun to work with his family again. Leigh and Patrick are bartenders at two local hot spots The Brick and Mac’s Place. Their priority for the reception was to have it be a great party that EVERYONE enjoyed. Their goal with the ceremony was to keep it intimate with just their immediate family and closest friends. Leigh had always dreamed of being married at the Gazebo at White Point Gardens and even though the weather that day was pretty wet early in the day, we got a break in the weather to make it happen for her that afternoon. Here she is looking stunning on the way to the ceremony…

The reception was held at Harborside East- a venue that is super unique in the architecture and perfect for a great party. Leigh chose a color palette of charcoal grey, coral, green and cream and it was really lovely in the venue and perfect for the start of spring!

Guests were greeted with… a cocktail of course!  – a “his” and “her” favorite!

The wedding cake brought together the organic look Leigh loves with the color palette she had chosen.

Leigh wanted to make sure the Existing HUGE Bar at the Harborside looked awesome so we added branches and orchids to each and every support pole at the bar- and it looked FABULOUS!


Outside a romantic and Comfy Lounge area was dressed up with some of our fantastic fabric draping with sheer coral fabric, crystal chandelier, and our Vintage seating area.



The venue has a HUGE Patio – Half of it is covered and Half is open air…while our original plan was to use both…. the rain of the day changed it up for us… so we kept it all under the existing covered portion and the tent we added. We added cool café lighting, some Tree’s and draping and VOILA…transformed into a comfy, romantic hang out that EVERYONE  enjoyed!


Leigh and Patrick hired the Travis Allison Band to make the tunes, Charleston Party Booth to have the playful fun of a photo booth, and for the finishing touch we had a Cigar Roller from the Cigar Row join us later in the evening….

What a great time was had by all- Including the Engaging Events team! We loved planning with Leigh and Pat and are so thrilled they had such a fabulous day!

They were married this past April at Lowndes Grove Plantation located on the Ashley River.

We loved being a part of this lovely couples wedding, we hope you love it too!
