Taylor and Tommy Lindquist at The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island SC
Tell us your story: It all began in college in New Jersey. Taylor was a soccer player and Tommy was a hockey player, they knew of one another from being in the same athlete social circle. After crushing on each other for quite a while, Tommy sent Taylor a Twitter message about a soccer game. That summer they got together a few times while at home and they started really dating while at school in October of 2013. She said “I love you” first after about a month and a half of dating. He supported her during soccer season and she supported him during hockey season. He finally asked her out (officially) at the train station after a Devils Hockey Game on a snowy night on January 21, 2014. They enjoyed their senior year together, making memories with their friends, and they both graduated college in May of 2015.
Since then, the rest is history! They loved life at the beach and spending as much time together as possible during the years after college, as they continued to fall more in love. Taylor and Tommy bought a home together in Point Pleasant, NJ in May of 2020. Buying a house during a pandemic definitely made them even closer as a couple and team!
The Engagment: In March of 2022 they went on one of their ski/snowboarding vacations to Utah. After living together for almost two years, he proposed in the mountains of the Wasatch National Forest. Taylor had absolutely no idea! Tommy pulled off the surprise engagement of her dreams! They had a few days left of their trip, so they soaked in the blissful time is a newly engaged couple!
In the Spring of 2022 they spent time planning their wedding and knew that they wanted a day and a location that represented both of them and their passions. It took some time… but they found a place they knew would be perfect, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. They chose their wedding date of 9.16.23, about ten years after they first started dating.
Describe your wedding day: We woke up together to a beautiful day on our wedding morning. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and really soaked in the quiet moments just the two of us before the most exciting day of our lives. We chose not to have a wedding party, so my mom and mother-in-law helped me get ready at our rental home on the island. All the while, Tommy spent a large part of the day with friends and his dad at the Clubhouse. After getting ready and having our first look on the beach path, the rest of the day was pure excitement and filled with love. I don’t think smiles left our faces for longer than a second. There was a cool breeze coming off the ocean, the sun was shining, and the temperature was around 80- we couldn’t have asked for better! The only moment during the day that brought me to tears was when we saw the space, full of all the exact details that I chose over the past few months. My vision 100% came to life that day. After our simple and perfect ceremony, we enjoyed the putting contest and cocktail hour with our guests. We loved this time everyone got to spend outside, taking in the stunning views! Next we headed to sunset photos while everyone moved inside for dinner, when we walked into the Atlantic Room…we were welcomed with an incredible amount of cheers and happiness, it was a moment I will never forget!
After enjoying a delicious meal and being able to sit together to soak everything in while looking at our loved ones, we fed each other a mini dessert and headed outside again! After the planned dances, we got the party started and danced the night away! Being in such a remote place, for the best day, with our favorite people- I still can’t believe how lucky we are! We ended our evening dancing in the moonlight under the magical string lights! Our wedding day was nothing short of magnificent and better than our wildest dreams.
What was your vision? Simple, Coastal, Chic, Classic
My vision for our day was embodied by those four words and it was exactly what I had wanted.
Being on the beach, combined with the greens of the golf course, and the natural dunes- I wanted to accentuate the beauty of where we were, especially with it being a destination- and a place most of our guests had never been before.
The linens were white, with touches of light blues that complimented the sea and the sky. The florals were all white and full of simple beauty, especially the clouds of hydrangeas. Even though it was a risk from the start, I wanted the majority of our day to be outside and it was SO worth the risk. The spectacular atmosphere and vibes of our day are something that we will never experience again, truly unlike anything else.
Advice for future couples: Do what YOU want and stick to it. There are so many voices, opinions, traditions when it comes to weddings, but remember that this day is about you and your fiance getting married. What matters most is that you are creating a day that makes you the happiest. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and get creative, but also stay true to yourselves.
There are three things that we did that we LOVED on our wedding weekend:
1. Have a welcome dinner or welcome drinks
This takes SO much pressure off of you for your wedding day. You can spend the evening mingling with all of your guests, so you don’t feel as though you have to see every single person on your wedding day. We spoke to everyone the night before during welcome drinks. We decided that for the wedding day we were going to focus on ourselves and let our guests approach us.
2. No wedding party
This goes against tradition, but we knew it would be best for us- especially with the destination factor.
Not having a wedding party eliminated obligations for our friends and family, way less drama, and we only worried about ourselves (way less coordinating with others).
3. This one goes against tradition as well, but we slept together the night before the wedding and we spent a few hours just the two of us the morning of. Doing this made us both feel so at ease before the big day and it also gave us some really treasured time alone.
Kind words from the couple:
You are simply incredible at what you do! From the start we had it in our minds that having a destination wedding at a place we had never been to was going to be difficult, but you and your team made everything so simple and easy! You were willing to work with me, listen to my vision, take things into consideration that were important, and you executed everything flawlessly! Leading up to our day I did not feel any bit of stress because I knew that you had everything handled! Our entire wedding day flowed seamlessly. Anything that came up was handled and you made sure that we were having the time of our lives. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you and your team for the amazing job you did! The time, care, love, and energy you spent making our day perfect will forever be appreciated!
