The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island

October 1, 2011

A second chance at love…..I think we all love those kind of stories….Jessi and I were thrilled to be a part of one last month.

Nancy and Ken were married at St. Andrews Church on Ashley River Road in an intimate ceremony with just immediate family;

and then celebrated with all their family and friends at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island.

Nancy had lost her first husband of many years a couple years ago and had prayed she would find someone to share the rest of her life with.

Well her prayers were answered when she met Ken- a sweet guy with a great sense of humor.

It was our pleasure to get to know them both and be a part of such a special day in their lives.

Nancy chose a color palette of copper and dusty purple- our florist Judy Johnston created show stopping florals to coordinate

with mixed arrangements of copper flowers and submerged copper orchids.

The couple chose a food station/tapas style reception and the Atlantic Room housed a shrimp & grits station as well as a

beef tenderloin carving station with potatoes au gratin and roasted fall vegetables.

The centerpiece for the room was the Engaging Events glass tower with sugar rimmed champagne glasses garnished with a fresh blueberry and a wonderful array of cheeses and fruits.

At the far end of the room Engaging Events and the Ocean Course created a beautiful delectable display of petite desserts in lieu of a wedding cake.

Creme Brulee, Pecan Tarts, Key Lime Tarts, Chocolate Truffles were just some of the wonderful offerings.

We chose beautiful textured copper linens throughout the reception with accents of the dusty purple twist linens.

Outside on the porch guests enjoyed a grilled fish and risotto station, a beautiful mahogany bar and a dance tent accented with Engaging Events

crystal chandeliers, dusty purple fabric draping accents, sofa seating with dusty purple throw pillows and Engaging Events

lantern clusters (these brown lanterns are new to our inventory this fall season:))

It was a great pleasure for the Ocean Course to host this wedding reception as well- as the couple spent much of their courtship on dates at the clubhouse restaurant.

The staff of the Ocean Course and Engaging Events is so happy for these two lovebirds and wish them many happy years to come…

Many thanks to the Ocean Course for the fabulous setting and food, Judy Johnston for the gorgeous florals, and King Street Studios for some of these detail shots.

The Carriage House at Magnolia Plantation

September 24, 2011

Congratulations to Nicole and Hector married one month ago at Magnolia Plantation!

It was a very challenging day for our crew, as the weather wasn’t the clear sky, sunny, warm day we had all hoped for.

During the afternoon we had quite the downpour and the remainder of the late afternoon brought showers on and off.

This is a bride’s worst nightmare when planning a ceremony riverside under a beautiful old oak tree.

However, Nicole and Hector had Engaging Events on their side!

We had advised them to get a tent to cover the patio, just in case of such a scenario. We took it right down to the wire in terms of timing.

We had originally discussed making a decision on the location of the ceremony(under the tree or under the tent) 30 minutes prior to guest arrival.

When watching radar online it quickly became obvious that the decision was not going to be clear cut that far out.

With their agreement we stretched that timeline– literally making the decision 15 minutes before the ceremony was to begin. Our waiting paid off…..

Nicole and Hector were married riverside, under a beautiful old oak tree, with the sun out…during the “kiss” it started to sprinkle…and I prayed once again for just a few more moments!

Well, the man upstairs delivered…and not only with holding off the rain for a little more time….but as Nicole and Hector recessed down the aisle..the Most Amazing, Vibrant, Brilliantly Romantic RAINBOW…YES RAINBOW I have ever seen appeared overtop of that beautiful old oak tree.

Sometimes a special couple and a team of wedding planners just get lucky!

I don’t often do this – here on the blog – but my many many thanks and kudo’s to the Engaging Events crew for making this couples dream ceremony happen!

This beautiful wrought iron arbor was the backdrop for the ceremony riverside….

Many Thanks to Elaine Mincey for creating this wonderfully yummy cake with the linen design piped on….

Our wonderful florist – Judy Johnson – created centerpieces from inspiration photo’s provided by Nicole..

….blooming branches, hydrangae and votive candles were one style of centerpiece, and submerged orchids and branches with floating candles fashioned the other tables.

The Engaging Events team provided fabric draping throughout the space softening its rustic architecture.

Engaging Events sofa seating framed the dance floor creating a lounge feel.

The Patio we tented as a ceremony back up location was allowed to house seating, food stations and bench seating as originally planned.

The Engaging Events crystal chandeliers added an element of formality to the area.

Once again, our congratulations to Nicole and Hector…..we wish them many many years of happiness and RAINBOWS!!!!

20 Year Vow Renewal

June 16, 2011

The Sanctuary, Kiawah Island Resort

We were thrilled to be the planners for a 20 year vow renewal in June at The Sanctuary.

It was a beautiful day for a special couple, and their wonderful family and friends. Their story is a truly romantic one,

to simply renew the promises they made 20 years ago, overlooking the ocean, a setting that has been so much a part of their past.

They chose a cake that was inspired from basket designs of American Indians- a part of their heritage.
Many thanks to Elaine Mincey for this beautiful and delicious cake.

The guests were greeted with the beautiful aroma of gardenia’s upon arrival to the cocktail hour at the beautiful Ocean Room Restaurant.

Guests were treated to luxurious table settings including silk linens, hammered glass charger plates with gold rim,

letterpressed menu cards presented in ivory bengaline napkins and once again the beautiful aroma of a gardenia.

The table names were street’s the couple had lived on in the past or had special meaning to them.

They were presented on a 100% cotton paper calligraphied by Gayle Hilton of Calligraphy by Request.

Barb and Ricardo

William Aiken House

The Wedding of Barb and Ricardo took place at the William Aiken House- it was a much anticipated and wonderful evening.

Barb and Ricardo had originally planned their wedding for a Friday in April- and due to an illness

in the family- they had to postpone…so when their day finally came in June everyone was excited and happy.

Ariel and Brett

The Historic Rice Mill

Ariel and Brett were married Memorial Day Weekend at the Historic Rice Mill

The ceiling of the covered patio was draped with White fabric by Engaging Events.

We lit the patio with a variety of shapes of white Asian lanterns; and furnished it with

our white sofas, throw pillows, and coffee tables.
